It started in the early 40’s when young GI’s were sent off to fight in Europe, Africa and the Phillipines .

They carried a picture of their sweet heart from home, or hung a picture of a Hollywood Starlet in their locker or painted a picture of some glamorous gal on the nose of their bombers.


The tradition continued in Korea, followed by Viet Nam and now Iraq and Afghanistan.
